LEARNING TRACKS / ROBOTICS
Six cumulative levels move from first circuits to integrated autonomous systems. Each level assumes the skills established in the levels before it.
Level 1 is available now. Level 2 has an approved learning plan but is awaiting physical hardware validation. Levels 3–6 are transparent roadmaps: their goals and sequences may evolve, and families should not buy their hardware yet.
THE ROAD AHEAD
FOUNDATIONS / 101
Learn physical computing from first principles: outputs, inputs, functions, sensors, state, mechanics, debugging, and a complete capstone.
LOGIC / INTERMEDIATE ARDUINO
Make an Arduino run a complete system with explicit Boolean rules, reusable code, responsive timing, memory, and user interfaces.
ROBOTICS / MOTION
Turn code into measured motion, calibrate sensors, and build basic autonomous navigation on a provisional robot platform.
ROBOTICS / CONTROL
Replace guess-and-check motion with feedback, continuous correction, data-based tuning, and bounded recovery.
PYTHON / COMPUTER VISION
Treat camera images as measurable data, build inspectable processing pipelines, and report uncertainty honestly.
VISION / ROBOT INTEGRATION
Coordinate vision and robot control through explicit messages, timeouts, independent safety checks, and recoverable failure.
HARDWARE ROADMAP
This section shows what each level reuses and adds. The linked level page is the authority for requirements, and an exact shopping guide is published only after its hardware has passed validation.
Begin with an Arduino Student Kit or the documented equivalent: a genuine Arduino Uno, USB data cable, breadboard, multimeter, LEDs, resistors, buttons, potentiometers, servo, sensors, piezo, jumper wires, and mounting base.
A Windows, macOS, or Linux computer running Arduino IDE 2 is also required.
Open the current Level 1 hardware guide →Reuse the Level 1 Uno, USB cable, jumper wires, buttons, passive piezo, computer, Arduino IDE, and maker notebook. Add a larger breadboard; 74HC08, 74HC32, and 74HC04 logic ICs; a 74HC595 shift register; 3×4 keypad; eight LEDs; resistors; and 0.1 µF decoupling capacitors.
Current status: the exact parts have been purchased for validation. This is not yet a purchase recommendation. The planning estimate is $20–$45 incremental before tax and shipping.
Review the Level 2 hardware plan →Levels 3–6: hardware remains provisional and should not be purchased from the roadmap pages. Add each level here when its requirements become stable enough to give parents useful planning guidance.
