Family Pilot — not yet validated: What has not been validated yet

Version 0.1.0 · desk and safety review August 27, 2026

This page is available early for family testing. The activity has not yet been completed to prove every instruction, value, timing estimate, visual, or accommodation.

Mechanical Engineering & Machines

Measure carefully, build useful physical systems, and let evidence—not appearance—decide what to change.

The learning path

This independent Applied STEM Track develops practical mechanical engineering through six cumulative Levels. Learners begin with hand tools, card structures, joints, jigs, fits, and simple mechanisms. Later Levels will add machines, energy, manufacturing, control, and integrated design as their implementation packages pass review.

The Track is designed around a repeatable cycle:

  1. name the job and constraints;
  2. predict what will happen;
  3. build the smallest useful test;
  4. measure actual behavior;
  5. diagnose one likely cause;
  6. change one variable; and
  7. retest under the same conditions.

Level 1 · Maker Foundations

Level 1 begins with a Family Pilot Lesson that turns one flat light-card blank into a working parts tray. The visible project is simple; the deeper work is learning ruler zero, reference edges, square lines, target versus actual measurements, and diagnosis before remaking.

What “Family Pilot” means here

Family Pilot pages have completed a desk and safety review and are available early for real-family use. They are deliberately excluded from search engines and the sitewide lesson library until family evidence supports revision and stable publication. Each pilot page names what remains uncertain; a family should stop and report a mismatch instead of forcing the planned design to work.

No page is a purchase instruction unless it explicitly says so. For the first Lesson, use suitable materials already on hand and make a missing-items list before buying anything.

The six-Level roadmap

Level Focus Publication status
1 Maker foundations: measure, fabricate, join, fit, test First Lesson prepared as Family Pilot
2 Structures and load paths Roadmap only
3 Mechanisms and motion Roadmap only
4 Machines, work, and energy Roadmap only
5 Manufacturing and repeatability Roadmap only
6 Integrated mechanical design Roadmap only

The later Level titles describe direction, not a buying list or promise that exact projects are settled.
